Extra credit assignment: optimization problems
This assignment was assigned for extra credit. Ms. Lee gave us this assignment because many of us needed extra points to boost our grades before taking the first semester final. For this assignment, I was asked to solve the problems and turn it in the day of the final exam. This assignment was important to me because it gave me a chance to boost up my B+ that I had in the class. The extra practice made it meaningful to me because I had a hard time understand how to solve the optimization problems and when this assignment was given as an extra credit, I was glad that I had extra practice. Before I transferred in to Ms. Lee's Elementary Calculus class, I was struggling in Ms. Ling's AP Calculus AB class. Optimization problems was one of the lessons I had a hard time understand. I now understand and know how to solve optimization problems.
UNDERSTANDING THE SLOS
In this assignment, Ms. Lee spent a day or so having the class understand the six SLOs (Student Learning Outcomes). Many of us (the students) have a hard time understanding what the six SLOs mean because it is very wordy. Ms. Lee told the class to divide into groups of four and pick a SLO to analyze as a group. My group members and I chose SLO #4: Students will use a variety of analytic skills to interpret data and solve problems. My group and I drew charts to show what SLO #4 meant to us. This assignment was important to me because later in April, the WASC team are coming in to our school to see how the students at Mark Keppel are doing. Drawing out and interpreting the SLOs made it meaningful to me because the original wording of SLO #4 was a little difficult to understand. Before completing this work, I did not have a clear understanding of what SLO #4 meant. Now that I have completed this assignment, I now understand that SLO #4 is saying that students will use charts, thinking maps, or guidelines to solve problems.
